The UN’s aid chief on Monday called on Israel to open several crossings in northern and southern Gaza to ensure a sustained flow of assistance. Tom Fletcher also urged Israel to simplify procedures and remove quotas. He said the UN had received assurances that aid operations would be assisted. Mr Fletcher said Israel should avoid attacks during aid distribution and allow support for a full range of needs, including food, water, shelter, health supplies, fuel and gas to enter. The UN said nine lorries had been allowed in on Monday but it was unclear how many would cross into Gaza.
