The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Appellate Court disqualified PPP’s Fida Muhammad Nashad, who had won the June election. The bills were approved by the cabinet during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the government endorsed draft legislation aimed at implementing legal and administrative changes arising from the 27th Constitutional Amendment. UN assembly approves four-year extension in mandate of rights chief

The United Nations ⁠General ⁠Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favour of extending the term of UN Human Rights chief ⁠Volker Turk for four more years in spite of opposition from Russia, Israel ‌and the United States. Of the 193-member UN General Assembly, 144 voted in favour, 10 against, and there were 13 abstentions in the vote on Friday.
