Voters in the Arab-Israeli town of Abu Ghosh expressed jubilation at the prospect of Arab-led parties winning a record number of seats in Israel’s parliament. Unlike most of the roughly 400,000 Palestinians living in nearby East Jerusalem, who generally hold permanent residency rather than Israeli citizenship, residents of Abu Ghosh are Israeli citizens and eligible to vote in national elections. “We are overjoyed,” one young man said, describing the election as a “historic moment.”
