China urges respect for sovereignty of Gulf states, Middle Eastern countries

China’s Vice President Han Zheng told the UN General Assembly on Saturday that “the world wants peace, not war,” urging respect for the sovereignty and security of Middle Eastern countries, including Gulf states. Mr Han called for global trade and supply chains to remain “stable and unimpeded” as he warned against protectionism. “Protectionism produces no winners,” he said adding, “Building walls, erecting barriers, decoupling, and cutting off supply chains disrupt global industrial and supply chains and harm the interests of all parties.” Read More…

UN doesn't need more resolutions but 'greater capacity to implement them', Bahrain says

Bahrain said that the UN needs to follow through on its resolutions, highlighting those that have condemned Iranian attacks and threats to the freedom of navigation. "We reaffirm that what the United Nations needs today is not more resolutions, but greater capacity to implement them," said Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani. Saudi, Lebanese officials discuss ties and regional developments

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. US waging 'economic terrorism' against Iran, Iranian FM says

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the US of waging “economic terrorism” against Iran, saying Washington was deliberately seeking to inflict suffering on the Iranian population. Any attack on Makkah or Madinah is a ‘red line’, says Pakistan’s PM Sharif

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has told the UN General Assembly that any attack on the holy cities of Makkah or Madinah would be a “red line”. Saudi Arabia’s air defences destroyed a Houthi drone south of Makkah before it entered prohibited airspace over the holy city last week. Iraq seeks energy links with Turkey, Jordan and Syria

Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi said in his speech that Iraq wanted to develop energy links with Turkey, Jordan and Syria to help address the Strait of Hormuz bottleneck. Mr Al Zaidi said Iraq was concerned by the blockade of shipping in the Middle East and the effect on energy prices worldwide. “In order to contain the subsequent risks and the consequences for our peoples, we are working to diversify our oil export ports and develop energy lines and corridors linking Iraq, Turkey, Jordan and Syria,” he said. Lebanon's PM warns of looming peacekeeping 'vacuum'

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called on the UN to “avert the vacuum” that could be left by the departure of peacekeeping troops.
