A high-level Pakistani team is scheduled to visit Washington this week for the annual spring conference of the Bretton Wood Institutions (BWIs), which includes the IMF and the World Bank, with the possibility of new talks with the IMF on the sidelines of the meeting.

However, given the present expanding gap caused by twin deficits, including the budget and current account deficits for the current fiscal year, the resumption of the IMF programme remains a long shot.
