US-Iran tensions rise as Hormuz talks remain deadlocked

Fears of renewed US-Iran hostilities are growing after the 60-day negotiation framework under the Islamabad MoU expired without diplomatic progress. Tehran rejects treating it as a deadline, calling it a framework for talks. Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s threats against Iran and Oman, which is mediating over the Strait of Hormuz, have heightened tensions. His declaration that the strait is “new US territory” further complicates efforts to resolve the crisis.
