France confirmed that it has shifted its position on Iran’s nuclear programme after President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday he wanted Tehran to start moving towards “zero nuclear enrichment.” His comments outlining a French diplomatic initiative to de-escalate the Iran-Israel war came as European ministers and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi were due to meet in Geneva. “The President’s statements on zero enrichment are indeed [new] but I think his comments should be placed in the current context,” Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine said.
