NCSW Seeks Stronger Response to Violence Against Women

ISLAMABAD: The National Commission on the Status of Women has called for immediate police action against rising violence, rape and harassment targeting women and girls. Chairperson Noureen Bano Lehri voiced concern over recent cases and urged authorities to ensure swift, transparent and merit-based investigations, effective prosecution and timely justice. Flotilla activists report rape and torture after Israeli abduction at sea

Anti-genocide activists released from Israeli custody after Israel seized a Gaza-bound aid flotilla say they were tortured, sexually assaulted and denied basic legal rights. Organisers of the Global Sumud Flotilla said several activists were hospitalised after their release, while at least 15 reported sexual assaults, including rape. Algeria’s parliament has unanimously passed legislation declaring France’s colonisation of the country a crime. Lawmakers stood in the chamber draped in scarves bearing the national colours, chanting “Long live Algeria” as they approved the bill. Israeli authorities extend detention of army’s top lawyer over leaking rape video

Israeli authorities have extended the detention of Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalm and retired Colonel Matan Solomesh, the army’s former chief military prosecutor, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority has said. The two were arrested earlier this week as part of an inquiry into the leak of a video showing Israeli soldiers assaulting a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military prison in southern Israel. Five dead including gunman in New York office shooting spree

Four people including a police officer were killed Monday after a gunman walked into a skyscraper in central Manhattan and opened fire in broad daylight, officials said.
