Doubt cast on Bessent’s claim that EU has joined US economic campaign against Iran

Reports suggest that the European Union has only endorsed Washington’s economic campaign against Iran and is yet to officially join, despite the US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent saying it already has. “The EU welcomes efforts at ensuring that Iran ceases its destabilising activities and engages in peace negotiations with good faith, also through additional economic pressure, including through the US led Operation Economic Outcast,” said a statement on Monday. Bessent thanked the EU for joining the economic campaign, saying that the world was “sending a clear message to Iran”. Read More…

Ruling Georgian Dream member of parliament Tengiz Sharmanashvili said that Georgia will not support any policy that runs counter to its own national priorities. “Whether Georgia will join any resolution or take steps related to international politics is determined by only one criterion: whether it is in Georgia’s interests at that moment or not,” Sharmanashvili said. EU Gas Outlook Remains Stable Ahead of Winter

European Commission spokesperson Eva Hrncirova said there is no immediate concern over natural gas supplies in the European Union, with storage facilities currently at 62% capacity, Al Jazeera reported. However, EU countries are facing difficulties replenishing reserves ahead of winter. Persistently high gas prices following the US-Israeli war on Iran have discouraged companies from purchasing additional supplies. Despite current storage levels providing some reassurance, authorities continue to monitor market conditions and efforts to secure adequate gas supplies before the colder months. Read More…
