NASA has released a striking image of dawn on Mars captured by its Curiosity rover, highlighting rugged rock formations shaped billions of years ago. The car-sized rover, exploring Gale Crater since 2012, took the image about an hour after sunrise. Scientists believe the distant ridges formed from wind-blown sediment or volcanic ash that later hardened into rock before being sculpted by Martian winds.
