In a statement on X, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei said good-faith negotiations must entail a sincere effort to “resolve the dispute”, without any form of “deception” or “coercion”. Citing a 2011 ruling by the ICJ, Baghaei said that “the concept of ‘negotiations’ requires, at the very least, a genuine attempt to engage in discussions with a view to resolving the dispute.” The statement comes amid reports that the US and Iran have made progress on a potential agreement to end the war, with Tehran reviewing a new US proposal.
