Himalayan disaster triggers major rescue operation

Rescuers in Nepal and China raced on Sunday to locate thousands of people missing after a glacier collapse triggered a devastating mudslide across the Himalayas. Authorities said the death toll had climbed sharply, while thousands remained unaccounted for on both sides of the border. The disaster swept ice, rocks, mud and debris through valleys and rivers. More than 90,000 people are believed to have been affected, while difficult terrain and rising waters continue to hamper rescue efforts.
