The UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees said that as many as 800,000 people could flee the country, placing strain on countries in the region. UN humanitarian coordinator in Sudan Abdou Dieng said in Geneva that “regional spillover of the crisis is of serious concern”. Mr Dieng said that the crisis was turning into a “full blown catastrophe,” as food, water and power supplies to health facilities are facing collapse in the country of 45 million.
