The UN has decried the “alarming” rise in the number of Rohingya refugees lost at sea fleeing their Myanmar homeland or Bangladesh in 2022, warning that more would die without concerted action. At least 348 Rohingya died or went missing at sea in 2022, according to the UNHCR, which is calling for a concerted regional response to the ongoing crisis.
