Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the situation, that Saudi Arabia is imposing tens of millions of dollars in tax demands on various technology companies, including Uber Technologies Inc and its Dubai-based subsidiary Careem.

According to the report, Uber and Careem are facing a combined bill of roughly $100 million.

According to Bloomberg, the claims stem from a disagreement over how to compute the value-added tax owed over the last five years, and involve steep penalties for late payment.
