The Daily Star and Prothom Alo faced “repeated threats” leading up to yesterday’s ambushes, the former has said. In a direct account of the arson attack that trapped dozens of employees and forced them onto the roof, the daily newspaper wrote that “thankful as we are, we cannot help but take note of the government’s relaxed attitude towards the safety and security of news outlets.” The previous threats, it added, “were neither dealt with seriously nor investigated”. “We urge the government to take necessary steps to investigate this incident, identify the culprits as well as their instigators, and bring them to book,” the statement continued.
