The recent wave of Palestinian statehood recognition has put enormous pressure on the US and Israel, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica stated. “This week’s series of recognition of Palestinian statehood shows the two-state situation is no longer deadlocked,” she sai at the UN. “One hundred and sixty recognitions is enormous pressure on both Israel and the US administration.” Many European countries are calling for sanctions against Israel to force its hand and end the war in Gaza. But Israel, angered by the recent recognition, has persisted with rejecting a Palestinian state and ending the Gaza war.
