No additional polio cases have been reported in Gaza since a 10-month-old baby was paralysed in August last year, but the new environmental samples collected from Deir el-Balah and Khan Younis have confirmed poliovirus transmission, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The strain detected is genetically linked to the poliovirus found in Gaza in July last year, so a new vaccination campaign is scheduled from February 22-26, UNICEF said.
