Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared one day of mourning across the occupied West Bank, with flags to be flown at half-mast after the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh on Wednesday. Shops in the cities of Ramallah and Al Bireh kept their doors closed and streets were empty as people went on strike to protest against Mr Haniyeh’s killing.
