Hamas’s military wing, the Ezzedine Al Qassam Brigades, has said the Israeli assassination of its political chief Ismail Haniyeh marks a critical escalation and will have “major repercussions” across the Middle East. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “leading Israel towards the abyss”, it said. “The criminal assassination of leader Haniyeh in the heart of the Iranian capital is a critical and dangerous event that takes the battle to new dimensions and will have major repercussions on the entire region.
