The head of the Houthis’ Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al Mashat, announced a three-day mourning period in areas of Yemen controlled by the Iran-backed rebels, after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Mr Mashat condemned the attack, which he blamed on Israel. He added that Mr Haniyeh’s death was a “great loss for the Palestinian people and the entire Islamic nation”. “Yemen will stand with all its strength alongside the mujahideen in the Hamas movement and the entire axis of resistance,” Mr Mashat told the Houthi-run Al Masirah news outlet.
