US-led strikes against the Houthis in Yemen and the EU’s less co-ordinated response to the Red Sea crisis are on the agenda as the bloc’s diplomats meet on Tuesday in Brussels to discuss marine defence efforts. “There is clearly a need for some sort of protection of international shipping in the Red Sea,” an EU diplomat told The National. Discussions about the mission are expected to continue for weeks, with the possibility of approval by next month.
