Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon expressed great concern about water scarcity in the state on Sunday, saying that water shortages in the province’s barrages have worsened to an alarming degree.

He added in a statement that the Kotri Barrage was experiencing a 72% water scarcity, and that water delivery to industry was now likely to be interrupted due to an irrigation and potable water shortage.

According to the information minister, the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) had failed to implement the 1991 Water Accord and had been using the three-tier mechanism for water allocation among provinces for many years, which was unlawful and against its mission.
