Omar Rahman, a fellow at the Doha-based Middle East Council on Global Affairs, said that Gulf nations – particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE – spent recent years “building bridges” with Iran. “Nonetheless, the US brushed those concerns aside from the Gulf and pursued what’s widely seen as – both in the US, and around the world, including the Middle East – a war of choice,” Rahman said.
