Washington and Paris have hit out at Israel over an “irresponsible” conference attended by several government ministers calling for Israeli resettlement of Gaza. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was one of thousands of people to attend the meeting in Jerusalem on Saturday, where 11 ministers called for Gaza outposts evacuated in 2005 to be re-occupied. A US National Security official told Israeli newspaper Haaretz that Washington “does not support an Israeli reoccupation of Gaza”, and was troubled by statements from the conference “which was endorsed and attended by members of the government of Israel”.
