The 15 members of the UN Security Council on Friday urged the international community to step up support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, to ensure the effective and sustainable deployment of troops south of the Litani River. The council welcomed “the efforts and commitments of the Lebanese government to exercise its sovereignty over its whole territory, through the Lebanese Armed Forces, and recognise no authority other than that of the government of Lebanon”. Council members called on all parties to abide by the Cessation of Hostilities arrangement between Israel and Lebanon of November 26, 2024, following new Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon that killed one person and wounded seven on Thursday.
