Israel’s military strike on a UN food distribution centre is “another symbol of the fact that there is less and less respect for humanitarian work” and the protection the UN flag should bring, the UN spokesman said. Stephane Dujarric told reporters that the UN has seen this lack of respect in Sudan, Congo and other hotspots, as well where UN bases have been attacked. A UN staff member with UNRWA, the agency helping Palestinian refugees, paid “the ultimate price”, Mr Dujarric said, losing his life while 22 others were wounded.
