The United Nations ⁠General ⁠Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favour of extending the term of UN Human Rights chief ⁠Volker Turk for four more years in spite of opposition from Russia, Israel ‌and the United States. Of the 193-member UN General Assembly, 144 voted in favour, 10 against, and there were 13 abstentions in the vote on Friday. Earlier, a large majority of the chamber voted against a Russian counter-proposal to ⁠extend Turk’s term by just ⁠over two months, to the end of 2026.
