Six samples of type 2 polio have been detected in Gaza, said Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees. “Thankfully, no paralytic cases have been detected yet,” he said in a post on X. His comments come after the World Health Organisation warned of a potential polio outbreak in Gaza. Type 2 polio was decalred eradicated in 2015 and was last detected in India in 1999, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said.
