The UN’s top relief co-ordinator on Friday called US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace proposal “a window of opportunity” and urged all parties to back a ceasefire that would allow the rapid delivery of life-saving assistance and the release of hostages. “It offers both a chance for Palestinians to receive aid at the scale urgently needed, and to bring the hostages home. We are ready and eager to act,” Tom Fletcher said. He added that about 170,000 tonnes of food, medicine, shelter materials and other critical supplies were stored across the region and could be sent into Gaza if access was granted.
