India dismisses US concern about citizenship amendment act

Comments by the United States expressing concern about India’s implementation of a contentious citizenship law based on religion are “misinformed”, the foreign ministry of the South Asian nation said on Friday. In a statement, the U.S. State Department said it was “concerned” about the notification of the law, citing “respect for religious freedom and equal treatment” as a fundamental democratic principle. “We are of the view that it is misplaced, misinformed, and unwarranted,” Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for India’s Foreign Ministry, said in response to the U.S. statement. 'Faisal Vawda renounced US citizenship': CJP Bandial

On Thursday, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that PTI leader and former federal minister Faisal Vawda renounced his US nationality after submitting the nomination papers for the 2018 election. He made these remarks while hearing a petition filed by Faisal Vawda against his lifetime disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over filing false nomination papers.
