Gaza solid waste management system has collapsed: UN

In a report, the UN Development Programme’s (UNDP’s) Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People says Gaza’s two pre-war landfills are unreachable due to the fighting and it had set up 10 temporary sites. But Chitose Noguchi, the UNDP’s deputy special representative, said: “The solid waste management system has collapsed.” Noguchi said there were more than 140 informal dumping sites that have cropped up. Israel's war on Gaza has resulted in 'man-made disaster': UNDP

Afghanistan’s economy has ‘basically collapsed’: UN

The Afghan economy and especially regions affected by the devastating earthquakes in October last year, “are still hurting”, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) said on Thursday, as restrictions on women and girls continue to thwart basic rights and economic progress. People sheltering in UN office in Gaza killed in attack: UNDP chief

The UN Development Programme office in Gaza was shelled last night, Achim Steiner, the head of the UNDP, said in a post on X. Steiner said that there were reports of deaths and injuries “among those who sought safety in our compound”. “This is wrong on every count,” he added. “Civilians, civilian infrastructure & the inviolability of UN facilities must be always protected,” he stated. Islamabad: Resident Representative United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Knut Ostby on Friday called on Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The meeting underscored discussion on institutional arrangements made by the UNDP for short, medium, and long-term goals regarding the Climate Resilient Pakistan rehabilitation and recovery plan of action in flood-affected areas.
