PIMS fire: Inquiry report reveals treatment, facilities fall 'below global standards'

The initial inquiry report into the deadly fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) nursery said the hospital’s treatment and facilities fell below global standards, sources said on Saturday. The report, submitted to PM Sharif, also identified the causes of the incident and determined those responsible for the tragedy, they added. The report recommended immediate action against those held responsible for the incident, along with disciplinary proceedings against relevant Pims staff members who were absent when the fire broke out. Dozens of Palestinian patients evacuated from Gaza for treatment

The Palestine Red Crescent Society has helped evacuate 40 patients and 62 companions for medical treatment outside the war-ravaged Gaza Strip. “The patients and their companions were prepared inside the al-Mawasi field hospital belonging to the association before being transferred by ambulance crews to the Rafah land crossing, in coordination with the World Health Organization and the competent authorities,” it said. “Great challenges” continue to plague the besieged territory’s healthcare system as hospitals face continuous pressure and difficult conditions because of Israeli military attacks and the devastating blockade, it said. Gaza’s sick and wounded unable to access medical treatment

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, almost 21,000 people should have been allowed to leave the enclave by now. This was the figure promised in the US-led deal agreed last October. About one-third of them were patients in need of urgent medical care, accompanied by two companions each. In reality, fewer than 7,500 people have been allowed to leave – a compliance rate of just 36 percent. Italy summons Israeli ambassador over 'unacceptable' treatment of flotilla activists 

Italy's government on Tuesday said that Israel's treatment of flotilla activists trying to take aid to Gaza was unacceptable and that it would summon the Israeli ambassador for an explanation. Any lapse in Imran Khan's treatment will amount to criminal negligence: Sanaullah

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Rana Sanaullah on Friday said that if it were proven that medical treatment was deliberately withheld from incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, it would constitute criminal negligence and could not be justified.
