Swedish PM seeks help from military as gang violence rocks country

Sweden’s prime minister announced that he would hold talks with the head of the Swedish armed forces and the police commissioner. He would discuss ways to stem gang violence following a wave of attacks that have resulted in at least 11 people killed so far this month. Swedish PM rejects referendum on NATO membership

Stockholm: On April 28, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson told that Sweden's government does not plan to hold a referendum if its parliament decides to proceed with an application for NATO membership. "I don't think it is an issue that is suitable for a referendum," she told reporters. "There is a lot of information about national security that is confidential, so there are important issues in such a referendum that cannot be discussed and important facts that cannot be put on the table," she added.
