Sri Lanka reappoints Amarasuriya as prime minister

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reappointed Harini Amarasuriya as the prime minister of the Indian Ocean island nation on Monday. Dissanayake, whose leftist coalition won 159 seats in the 225-member parliament in general election, also reappointed veteran legislator Vijitha Herath to helm the foreign affairs ministry. Israeli forces target UN peacekeepers again in southern Lebanon

Israeli forces have launched another attack on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters in southern Lebanon, injuring several Sri Lankan peacekeepers stationed there. A Sri Lankan court on Thursday sentenced an influential Buddhist monk to four years’ hard labour for fanning sectarian hatred against the island’s minority Muslim population. Govt. plans Parliamentary Debate on Sialkot lynching

The government has called a special session of the Senate and the National Assembly to discuss the horrific lynching of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara in Sialkot earlier this month. Two Sri Lankan cricket stadium staff killed by Elephant attack

Officials said on Wednesday that two ground members of staff at an international cricket stadium in Sri Lanka were murdered in an elephant attack. The two workers were attacked outside the Suriyawewa Mahinda Rajapaksa international stadium in Hambantota on Tuesday evening as they were on their way home.
