US sanctions bite at Russia-owned oil refinery in Serbia

A majority Russia-owned oil refinery in Serbia will shut in four days if the US does not remove its sanctions, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic has warned. Washington first targeted the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) site in January, but gave Belgrade waivers until the economic restrictions finally came into force last month. The Kremlin on Monday welcomed the victory claimed in parliamentary elections by Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic’s party in the Moscow-friendly Balkan nation. Kosovo says Serbia plotting to seize northern region

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has accused Serbia of plotting to annex the country's northern territories, citing a recent deadly attack by a Serbian armed group on Kosovan police as part of that plot. Serbian forces massing on Kosovo border, US warns

The White House said that it had detected a large build-up of Serbian forces on the Kosovo border. It urged Belgrade to withdraw them to avoid destabilizing the situation after deadly clashes. In Brussels meanwhile, Nato said it had authorised additional forces for Kosovo. New Serbia shooting leaves multiple dead, dozen injured

At least 10 people have been killed and 15 wounded when a man opened fire at several locations in Serbia. Local media reports early on Friday said a 21-year-old man identified by police as Uros Blazic, a son of a member of the Serbian military, randomly fired from a car with an automatic rifle, killing a police officer and his sister as well as six other people, who later succumbed to their wounds. Nine dead in Serbia school shooting

Nine people were reported dead on Wednesday in a school shooting in Serbia. A pupil at the elementary school was suspected of carrying out the shooting in Belgrade. NATO declines Serbia's request to deploy its troops in Kosovo

President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday that NATO’s mission in Kosovo declined a Serbian government's request to send up to 1,000 police and army personnel. The request was made following clashes between Serbs and Kosovo authorities. "They (KFOR) replied they consider that there is no need for the return of the Serbian army to Kosovo ... citing the United Nations resolution approving their mandate in Kosovo," Vucic said in an interview.
