PIA privatisation to be completed by December, Senate panel told

The Senate Standing Committee on Privatisation, chaired by Senator Afnanullah, was briefed on the ongoing privatisation process of the national flag carrier during its meeting in Islamabad. Officials from the Privatisation Commission informed the committee that the process for Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) privatisation is in progress and expected to be completed by December this year. The commission’s representatives said that the site due diligence process is nearing completion. Senate panel seeks PM Sharif's view on women's representation in CCI

The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice has referred the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill, 2025 — which seeks to amend Article 153 to ensure women’s representation in the Council of Common Interests (CCI) — to the prime minister, who heads the CCI. Senate body approves PECA Amendment Bill

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior approved the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Bill, despite strong opposition from journalist organizations. The Senate body session was chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem. The meeting was attended by Senators Shahadat Awan, Umar Farooq, Kamran Murtaza, Palwasha Khan, and Mir Dostain Hassan Domki. Work on Dasu hydropower, Islamabad sub station commenced

The Senate Standing Committee on Power Division on Wednesday informed that work on all three lots including Dasu Hydropower Project, Mansehra Sub Station and Islamabad Sub Station has already been started. The committee which met with Senator Saifullah Abro in the Chair was told that the total length of the transmission line was 254.6 kilometres which included 686 towers, the state news agency reported. Bill proposed to penalize desecration of flag, Quaid's portrait

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Pir Sabir Shah presented the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2020 before the Senate Standing Committee on Interior. It was proposed in the bill to increase punishment for desecrating the portrait of Quaid-e-Azam and the national flag. Under Section 123B of the PPC, desecrating the national flag or the portrait of Quaid-e-Azam will be punishable by six months minimum or five years maximum. Amendments possible in PMDA proposals: Fawad Chaudhry

PML-N resists media authority bill

Irfan Siddiqui, a PML-N senator and a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Information opposed the Media Authority Bill inside and outside Parliament. Irfan Siddiqui declared PMDA as an unconstitutional and harsh law against media freedom. He said that to set up a Media Development Authority is to sepress freedom of expression. Senate instructs Nepra to rectify power issues

In a meeting held at the parliament house, theSenate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat instructed the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to take initiative for the rectification of issues regarding electricity like power outages and over-billing.
