Russia to Respond to Germany’s Cultural Centre Move

Russia will close Goethe-Institut branches in Moscow, St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg following Germany’s decision to shut the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday. Speaking in Vladivostok, Lavrov also denied Russian involvement in a drone incident at Leipzig Airport earlier in August. He said Berlin acted on the assumption that the drone resembled those used by Russia, calling the decision an end to Germany’s cultural presence in Russia. Read More…

PIMS fire: Inquiry report reveals treatment, facilities fall 'below global standards'

The initial inquiry report into the deadly fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) nursery said the hospital’s treatment and facilities fell below global standards, sources said on Saturday. The report, submitted to PM Sharif, also identified the causes of the incident and determined those responsible for the tragedy, they added. The report recommended immediate action against those held responsible for the incident, along with disciplinary proceedings against relevant Pims staff members who were absent when the fire broke out. Tragedy Strikes PIMS Newborn Amid Hospital Blaze

ISLAMABAD: A two-month-old boy was among 14 babies who died in Wednesday’s fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The infant had remained unclaimed at the hospital since birth, where he was being cared for alongside other sick children. A Pims doctor said he was born on June 21 to a young girl believed to be around 15. Hospital staff said the family left after failing to provide documents proving marriage. Read More…

DNA Testing Advances in Hina Javed Murder Case

LAHORE: DNA tests of key suspects in the Hina Javed murder case have been completed at the Punjab Forensic Science Agency. Samples from her husband, father-in-law and domestic worker Zeeshan were collected in the presence of her brother, Fahad Javed. During the investigation, Zeeshan allegedly confessed and claimed Hina’s husband offered Rs100,000 for the killing. Both husband Faisal Asghar and his father denied the allegations. Imran Khan receives second eye injection at Pims in follow-up visit

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad on Tuesday for a scheduled follow-up visit linked to treatment of his right eye. The former prime minister was taken to the hospital under heightened security for the second time from Rawalpindi's Adiala jail for treatment of the right eye after his first visit late in January. Israeli military establishment ‘fatigued’, does not want to resume Gaza war

Menachem Klein, professor of political science at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, has told Al Jazeera that there had been “a struggle” in Israel over whether to resume the war or the negotiations. The army was uninterested in resuming the war, and the families of the captives demanded a deal, but Netanyahu was interested in resuming the war and cancelling the deal, he said.
