PKR value rises, SBP governor appraises Ishaq Dar

Islamabad: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor Jameel Ahmad has met Finance Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, in which they discussed the fiscal and monetary measures being undertaken for economic stability, revival and growth of the country. SBP governor added that the continuing administrative efforts by the government and the policy measures of SBP had resulted in achieving stability to the Pakistani rupee value and restrained exchange rate volatility. SBP governor to be nominated next week: Finance Minister

Islamabad: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail announced on Thursday that the government would nominate a new governor of the State Bank of Pakistan. Addressing a press conference along with Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, he said that the new governor would be appointed next week. While talking about the depreciating rupee, Miftah also assured the reporters that Acting SBP Governor Murtaza Syed had no hand in the depreciation of the rupee. Read More…

Ex-SBP governor Ishrat Hussain expresses reservation on SBP

Dr Ishrat Hussain, the former governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, has expressed doubts about the law giving the central bank authority. Shaukat Tarin, the Federal Minister of Finance, introduced the SBP Amendment Bill in the NA alongside the supplementary finance bill as a condition for the International Monetary Fund's $6 billion External Fund Facility (EFF) to be restarted (IMF). SBP governor: Negotiations with IMF moving forward positively

Pakistan's talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are progressing well, according to Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Reza Baqir. He was speaking to Pakistanis living abroad on Tuesday at an event in London, where he had been for the previous four days. Baqir's statement came after Jihad Azour, the Director of the IMF's Middle East and Central Asia Department, indicated that talks between Pakistan and the IMF on the $6 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) are going "very good."
