Transporters 'end strike' as Punjab govt 'halts' implementation of heavy fines

The transporters have called off their strike against heavy fines after reaching an agreement with the Punjab government. The sources said that the transporters had reached an understanding with Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, following which it was agreed that implementation of the new traffic rules would be halted and the wheel-jam strike would be called off. Punjab govt shuts amusement parks, museums amid smog

The Punjab government has taken a major step to combat the hazardous smog conditions in the province by shutting down amusement parks and museums for 10 days, from November 8 to 17. As per details, the districts affected by this ban include Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Gujarat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Chiniot, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh. Punjab govt ‘decides’ to impose tax on houses

The Punjab government decided to impose a property tax on houses in the province, adding to the woes of the already burdened public. According to sources, the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has been directed to compile a record of all houses in the province by next month, the sources said. The tax will be levied on houses measuring 5 marlas or above, with rates varying according to the value of the property. According to the sources, the houses worth over Rs 5 million will be taxed. Punjab govt to provide jobs to Sadaf Naeem’s daughter, husband

Lahore: The Punjab government has offered jobs to the daughter and husband of female reporter of Channel 5, Sadaf Naeem, who was crushed to death in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march. Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi held meeting with the grieved family at CM House in Lahore and made the job offer in different government departments. Punjab govt unveils over PKR 3 trillion budget

Lahore: On Wednesday, the Punjab government presented the budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 after considerable delay as the treasury and Opposition benches failed to reach a consensus. Finance Minister Punjab Sardar Awais Laghari unveiled the Rs3.226 trillion provincial budget for the fiscal year 2022-23, terming it a “pro-poor and pro-development budget”. LHC asks Punjab Govt. to consider closing schools from Dec 20

On Thursday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) raised concern about the city's haze and asked the Punjab administration to consider closing schools starting December 20. Advocate Shiraz Zaka and others filed complaints against the Punjab government's claimed inaction in controlling pollution in the province, which Justice Shahid Karim was hearing. During the hearing, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) notified LHC that smoke from barbeque shops was also contributing to the smog problem and suggested that they must be closed. Punjab govt announces holidays due to smog

On Monday, The Punjab government ordered the closure of all private offices and educational institutions in Lahore on Mondays, in addition to Saturdays and Sundays till January 15. The order will be applicable within the territorial limits of the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation due to the evidence of "continuous deterioration in Air Quality Index of the city of Lahore, ranging from satisfactory to poor levels, which is likely to cause breathing discomfort, respiratory tract diseases, and heart diseases" as a major reason behind the decision.
