Miftah Ismail defends petrol price hike

Islamabad: Finance Minister Miftah Ismail defended on Tuesday the federal government's decision to hike the price of petrol after backlash from his party's supremo Nawaz Sharif and a strong coalition partner. PM Shehbaz shifts blame of petrol price hike on PTI

Petrol price hiked by up to Rs 8.14

To secure the resurrection of the IMF programme, the government increased fuel prices by up to Rs8.14 per litre with immediate effect on Thursday night, setting a new record. The ministry of finance announced the decision shortly after 1:30 a.m. . The government increased the price of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs8.03 and Rs8.14 per litre, respectively, based on tax rates, import parity price, and currency rate.
