Govt forms committee to analyse Covid-19 JN.1 variant

The Punjab health ministry has formed a committee to analyse the new Covid-19 variant “JN.1 Omicron”. According to the notification issued, the committee formed to analyse the new Covid-19 variant “JN.1 Omicron” will forward suggestions to the Punjab government. AKUH confirms 6 cases of Omicron sub-variant XBB

The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) confirmed on Wednesday the detection of six coronavirus cases belonging to the highly-contagious Omicron subvariant category XBB in Karachi. “We have detected six cases, however, others have been found around the country,” AKUH Infectious Diseases Section Head Dr. Faisal Mehmood let out. Shanghai to impose phased Covid-19 lockdown

The city government said on Sunday that Shanghai would launch a phased lockdown to curb an Omicron-fuelled Covid-19 outbreak. The latest outbreak has hit China with its highest caseloads since the early days of the pandemic. Turkey's President tests positive for Covid-19

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he has tested positive for Covid-19. Erdogan on Saturday tweeted that he was infected by the Omicron variant of the virus. The President said he and his wife were having mild symptoms of Covid-19, adding that he will continue his work at home. According to the Xinhua news agency, the number of daily Covid-19 cases in Turkey has roughly doubled since early January, as the Omicron variant cases have spread swiftly across the country. Omicron Variant: China locks down southern city due to surge in cases

China has instructed residents of the southern city of Baise to stay at home and suspended transportation links in response to an increase in Covid-19 cases attributable at least in part to the omicron form, Classes have been canceled, non-essential businesses have been closed down, and citizens have been required to undergo mass testing. Smart Lockdown to be imposed in 4 areas of Karachi

Following an upsurge in instances of coronavirus and the Omicron strain, a micro-smart lockdown has been implemented in four Karachi towns. Karachi: Covid-19 positivity rate shoots up to 40%
