UN Warns Afghanistan War Victims Remain Forgotten

KABUL: The United Nations has warned that many civilian victims of Afghanistan’s two-decade war remain without justice, compensation or recognition. UNAMA said tens of thousands of civilians were killed or wounded between 2001 and 2021 in attacks and military operations involving the Taliban, Islamic State and Afghan or international forces. Survivors continue to face psychological trauma, financial hardship and disrupted lives. One victim, Mohammad, said the world had forgotten those affected by the conflict. Read More…

'Same enemy on both borders': Minister sees no difference between Kabul, New Delhi

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday warned Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government against continued support for militants, saying Pakistan would respond to Kabul the same way it had responded to India. “There is no difference between Delhi and Kabul,” Asif said while addressing the National Assembly in Islamabad, adding that the “same enemy” was currently sitting on both Pakistan’s eastern and western borders. China on Thursday lauded the role of Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Welcoming the ceasefire announced by Islamabad and Kabul, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing hopes that the two countries “will stay calm, exercise restraint, resume peace talks as soon as possible, realise a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire at an early date, properly handle differences and disputes through dialogue and jointly keep the two countries and the region peaceful and stable.” Read More…

Beijing urges Afghanistan to protect Chinese citizens after bombing

Beijing demanded on Tuesday that Afghanistan protect Chinese citizens after a bombing at a restaurant in Kabul killed at least seven people, including a Chinese man. China, which shares a rugged 76-kilometre (47-mile) border with Afghanistan, has close ties with the Taliban government. "China has made urgent representations with the Afghan side, demanding that the Afghan side spare no effort to treat the injured, further take effective measures to protect the safety of Chinese citizens," foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a news conference. Several killed in blast in Afghan capital Kabul

Several people were killed in a blast in the Afghan capital Kabul's Shahr-e-Naw area, the Taliban interior ministry said on Monday. "According to preliminary reports, a number of people were killed and injured," Interior Ministry spokesperson Abdul Mateen Qani told Reuters. Kabul police spokesperson Khalid Zadran said the blast targeted a hotel in the commercial Shahr-e-Naw neighbourhood that includes large office buildings, shopping complexes and embassies. Islamabad accuses Kabul of hosting TTP amid strained relations

While addressing the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif said that “Afghanistan must understand that lasting peace can only be realised by reining in TTP and other terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory.” In an X post on the Government of Pakistan account, Sharif also claimed that the “suicide attack” in the capital Islamabad today originated in Afghanistan, with India’s backing”.
