Iraq seeks energy links with Turkey, Jordan and Syria

Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi said in his speech that Iraq wanted to develop energy links with Turkey, Jordan and Syria to help address the Strait of Hormuz bottleneck. Mr Al Zaidi said Iraq was concerned by the blockade of shipping in the Middle East and the effect on energy prices worldwide. “In order to contain the subsequent risks and the consequences for our peoples, we are working to diversify our oil export ports and develop energy lines and corridors linking Iraq, Turkey, Jordan and Syria,” he said. Saudi Arabia denounces Iran attacks on Jordan

Saudi Arabia has expressed its “strongest condemnation” over Iran’s “continued unjustified and brutal” attacks on Jordan. The Foreign Ministry said Iranian bombardment constitutes a “blatant violation” of international law and the “principles of good neighbourliness”. It stressed the importance of an immediate halt to attacks on Jordan and other countries in the region, and called for “serious steps towards achieving security and stability” for the Middle East. Iran FM Araghchi’s posts sarcastic reply to Jordan counterpart

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has questioned his Jordanian counterpart, accusing the country of not respecting Iranian or Arab sovereignty. In a post on X, Araghchi sarcastically asked Ayman Safadi how long Tehran has to wait before responding to US attacks facilitated or launched from American bases in Middle Eastern countries, including Jordan. Jordan's army says shot down five Iranian missiles 

Jordan's military in a statement on Thursday said its air defences shot down five missiles coming from Iran that targeted the kingdom's territory, adding that the attack caused no casualties. The military's official spokesperson said "air defences engaged five missiles launched from Iran targeting the Kingdom's territory early this morning, Thursday. EU aviation agency adds Jordan to no-fly warning list as fighting continues 

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency on Wednesday asked airlines not to operate within the airspace of Jordan after it and other US Gulf allies were struck by Iran in the renewed conflict. The agency last week reinstated and toughened its warning to airlines operating in the Middle East, telling them to avoid the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and over the Gulf of Oman as the US-Iran war flared up anew. Jordan says it was targeted by six Iranian missiles

Jordan’s military has intercepted four Iranian missiles targeting the kingdom, while two other missiles fell in remote, uninhabited areas, according to the Petra news agency. Citing an anonymous military source, the agency said that air defence systems detected six missiles coming from Iranian territory and dealt with them immediately upon entering Jordanian airspace.
