Senate passes Anti-terrorism Amendment Bill 2025 amid opposition protests

Amid the opposition uproar, the Senate on Tuesday passed the Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Bill, 2025 with majority of votes by rejecting amendments proposed by JUI-F lawmaker Kamran Murtaza. Minister of State for Interior and Narcotics Control Muhammad Tallal Badar moved the Bill further to amend the Anti-terrorism Act, 1997 in the House. Kamran Murtaza moved certain amendments in the Bill but the House rejected them with majority of votes. The house passed the bill through clause by clause reading. Read More…

Madrassah agreement 2019 “nothing but a piece of paper”: JUI-F

JUI-F leaders have said that the seminaries registration agreement 2019 has no legal status, “It is nothing but a piece of paper”. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Hafiz Hamdullah has alleged that the government is trying to set religious scholars in clash with each other. “The eyes of the PPP and the PML-N members were shut at the time of consultations, or it was a betrayal for the sake of the 26th Constitutional Amendment,” he questioned. Pakistan govt ‘proposes’ new draft for seminary bill to JUI-F

The government of Pakistan has handed over a revised draft regarding seminary registration to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F). The development came during a consultation between JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza and the government’s legal team to end the deadlock on the seminary registration bill. Options, including accepting the 2019 agreement, have been proposed to JUI-F. JUI-F gives deadline for passing Madrasah Registration Bill

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has given the government a deadline of December 8 to pass the Madrasah Registration Bill. In a statement, JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri said that the government must approve the bill concerning religious seminaries by December 8. He warned that if the bill is not passed by December 8, they would be forced to march towards Islamabad. JUI-F opposes potential 27th constitutional amendment

The chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, declared firm opposition to a potential 27th constitutional amendment which is likely to approve next week. Talking to media in Islamabad, he stressed that JUI-F will strongly resist any attempt to made 27th amendment – Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act. Fazlur Rehman terms constitutional amendments ‘unacceptable’

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday categorically rejected the draft of the constitutional amendments, terming it ‘unacceptable and unviable'. Maulana Fazalur Rehman, speaking to journalists while leaving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Asad Qaiser’s residence, said that his party has thoroughly reviewed the proposed constitutional amendments and found them lacking. JUI-F won’t support amendments until draft is made public: Hamdullah

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Hafiz Hamdullah Tuesday clarified that his party will not support the proposed constitutional amendments until the draft is made public. In a statement, Hafiz Hamdullah questioned the whereabouts of the draft, stating, “Where is the draft of the constitutional amendments that the government wants? It should be made public. JUI-F will not support it until the draft is presented.” Hafiz Hamdullah further added that even federal ministers claim they are unaware of the constitutional amendments, raising concerns about its origins.
