Iraq seeks energy links with Turkey, Jordan and Syria

Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi said in his speech that Iraq wanted to develop energy links with Turkey, Jordan and Syria to help address the Strait of Hormuz bottleneck. Mr Al Zaidi said Iraq was concerned by the blockade of shipping in the Middle East and the effect on energy prices worldwide. “In order to contain the subsequent risks and the consequences for our peoples, we are working to diversify our oil export ports and develop energy lines and corridors linking Iraq, Turkey, Jordan and Syria,” he said. Oil Minister Bassem Mohammad Khadeer says the majority of oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz belong to Iraq. Iraq managed to export four million barrels of oil in a single day in September, Kadeer said, adding the daily average this month stands at 2.6 million barrels a day. Tanker attacked at Iraq’s Khor al-Amaya port: Source

As we reported earlier, British maritime monitor UKMTO said it had received a report of another attack on a tanker off Iraq. An Iraqi source told Al Jazeera that the oil tanker had been targeted at the port of Khor al-Amaya in territorial waters near Basra. Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada, an Iran-backed Iraqi armed group, says it will cooperate with efforts to regulate weapons in the country only if 10 conditions are met, foremost among them the complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.
