China urges respect for sovereignty of Gulf states, Middle Eastern countries

China’s Vice President Han Zheng told the UN General Assembly on Saturday that “the world wants peace, not war,” urging respect for the sovereignty and security of Middle Eastern countries, including Gulf states. Mr Han called for global trade and supply chains to remain “stable and unimpeded” as he warned against protectionism. “Protectionism produces no winners,” he said adding, “Building walls, erecting barriers, decoupling, and cutting off supply chains disrupt global industrial and supply chains and harm the interests of all parties.” Read More…

War on Iran shows strategic alliance with US ‘not enough’: Qatar

The war on Iran underscores that Gulf states cannot depend solely on strategic partnerships with the US for security, a Qatari Foreign Ministry official says. “We need to realise in the Gulf that having international forces in the region, having a strategic alliance with the US is very important but is not enough. Self-sufficiency when it comes to ‌security is the only way forward,” ‌ministry spokesperson Majed ‌al-Ansari told the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi. Read More…

Iran’s Khamenei calls for Muslim unity

TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has urged Muslim countries, especially Gulf states, to unite against what he described as their “real enemy”. In a message marking Islamic Unity Week, he called for greater cooperation, mutual defence and solidarity, warning that divisions benefit Islam’s adversaries. The message, posted on Telegram, accused the United States and other powers of pursuing colonial and hegemonic ambitions. He also criticised those contributing to divisions among Muslims, intentionally or otherwise. Read More…

Gulf states’ bypass routes cannot fully compensate for Hormuz closure

The Strait of Hormuz closure is hitting Gulf states hard – especially Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar – which have no bypass routes, says Frederic Schneider, an economist and a non-resident senior fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs. Even Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which do have alternatives, cannot fully make up for the losses, made worse by a partial blockade of the Red Sea by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. He said reserves have helped Gulf states cope “up until now”, but a “huge burden” is building… Read More…

'Tell Trump to desist or we hit you hard': Iran warns Gulf states

Iran has made a concerted diplomatic push with Gulf states, warning them explicitly that Tehran will hit their oil, power and water plants unless they convince Donald Trump to end US strikes on Iran and instead seek a negotiated end to the war. Araghchi urged Washington's Gulf allies to use their influence with Trump to dissuade him from launching renewed strikes, the senior diplomat said, warning that any attack on Iran would prompt retaliation against US assets and critical infrastructure across the Gulf. Concern in Gulf states over US-Iran negotiations

Dubai-based journalist Natasha Turak has told Al Jazeera that Gulf state leaders will likely want to make sure that their needs are taken into consideration in any future rounds of US-Iran negotiations. “The drop in oil export revenues for the Gulf states is dramatic; the only countries that have evaded this are Oman and Saudi Arabia because the majority of their ports are outside the Strait of Hormuz,” Turak said. In the UAE, weekly oil revenues have dropped to between 20 to 30 percent of pre-war levels, the journalist said… Read More…

Iran wants 'serious review' of Gulf ties, denies role in Saudi oil attacks

Iran's relations with Gulf states will require a "serious review" in light of the US-Israeli war on Iran, limiting the power of external actors so the region can become prosperous, Tehran's ambassador to Saudi Arabia told Reuters. Asked if he was concerned that relations would be harmed by the war, Ambassador Alireza Enayati said: "It's a valid question, and the answer may be simple. We are neighbours and we cannot do without each other; we will need a serious review". Read More…

Iranian envoy says Ukraine support to US and Gulf states is a 'joke'

Iranian envoy to Ukraine, Shahriar Amouzegar, dismissed the support Kyiv has offered to the United States and its Gulf allies, advertising its expertise in destroying Iranian-designed drones launched by Russia. "As for the actions Ukraine is taking in the Middle East against drones, we essentially consider them nothing more than a joke and a showy gesture," Amouzegar told AFP in an exclusive interview. Washington’s ‘war of choice’ with Iran undermines Gulf relationships

The US has harmed its relationships with Gulf states by pursuing war with Iran, an expert tells Al Jazeera. Omar Rahman, a fellow at the Doha-based Middle East Council on Global Affairs, said that Gulf nations – particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE – spent recent years “building bridges” with Iran. “Nonetheless, the US brushed those concerns aside from the Gulf and pursued what’s widely seen as – both in the US, and around the world, including the Middle East – a war of choice,” Rahman said. Gulf states condemn Israeli attacks on Iran and call for 'immediate ceasefire'

The six-nation Gulf Co-operation Council has condemned Israel's attacks on Iran and called for an immediate ceasefire in order to prevent a regional fall-out of the conflict. In an emergency meeting held online, foreign ministers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain convened to discuss the attacks between Iran and Israel that have now entered their fifth day. The ministerial council "strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on Iran" and labelled them a "flagrant violation" of the country's sovereignty.
