Assefa misses world record after late Berlin fade

Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa narrowly missed the women’s marathon world record at the Berlin Marathon on Sunday after fading late despite running at record pace for much of the race. She finished in 2:11:04, setting a personal and course record, but crossed the line visibly struggling and received medical treatment. Bedatu Hirpa and Dera Dida completed an Ethiopian podium. Ethiopian Forces Clash With Tigray Rebels in Afar

Ethiopian forces fought overnight to prevent Tigray rebels from entering the Afar town of Abala, amid reports of heavy clashes and a telecommunications blackout in northern Ethiopia. Pakistan airspace clear as Ethiopian volcano ash moves towards India

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said the country’s airspace is clear and its atmosphere will not be affected by ash from a “silent” volcano that erupted in Ethiopia after 12,000 years, with the clouds now moving towards India and China. Sudanese army, RSF blame each other for bombing Ethiopian embassy

Sudan's army and its rival paramilitary the Rapid Support Forces blamed each other for the bombing of the Ethiopian embassy in the Sudanese capital. The army and the RSF have been locked in ruinous fighting in the capital Khartoum and elsewhere in Sudan since mid-April. UK royals refuse to return remains of Ethiopian prince

Buckingham Palace has refused to return the body of a teenage Ethiopian prince who was buried at Windsor Castle 144 years ago. A descendant of Prince Alemayehu, an orphan who was adored and supported financially by Queen Victoria and died at the age of 18, has demanded that his remains be returned to Ethiopia.
