Ratko Mladic: A Dark Chapter in Europe’s History

Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb military commander known as the “butcher of Bosnia”, has reportedly died aged 83 or 84. He spent his final years imprisoned after being convicted of genocide and war crimes in 2017. Mladic was found responsible for some of the worst atrocities of the Bosnian war, including the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, in which around 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed. After US veto, Algeria warns UNSC risks 'third failure' akin to Rwanda, Bosnia genocides

Algeria has warned the UN Security Council that it risks repeating past failures to prevent genocide after the United States vetoed a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, despite 14 of 15 members backing the measure. Worst floods kill at least 14 in Bosnia and Herzegovina

At least 14 people have died in floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina and others were missing as torrential rain and landslides destroyed homes, roads and bridges across the centre of the country. The municipality of Jablanica, about 70 kilometres southwest of the capital Sarajevo, where the deaths were reported, was completely cut off after road and railway links were destroyed on Friday. EU agrees to grant Bosnia membership candidate status

On Tuesday, EU countries agreed to grant Bosnia candidate status to join the union, putting the Balkan nation at the start of a long road to membership. During a meeting in Brussels, European affairs ministers from the 27 member states gave the green light to Bosnia becoming a candidate after the European Commission, in October, recommended they launch the membership process. Bosnia's security minister accused of power abuse

Sarajevo: The state prosecutor's office said in a statement on Friday that Bosnia's Security minister, Selmo Cikotic, had been prosecuted with abuse of office and corruption over a sale of old weapons and military equipment during a previous period as defense minister. Heavy rains cause flood in Bosnia, Sarajevo blacked out

Sarajevo: On Friday, it emerged that heavy flooding caused by heavy rains overnight led to power cuts in Sarajevo, Bosnian capital. The roads were blocked, school classes cancelled and a plant filling oxygen tanks for Covid-19 patients was also submerged, officials reported.
