Austria turns Hitler birthplace into police station amid debate

Turning the house where Adolf Hitler was born into a police station has raised mixed emotions in his Austrian hometown. Austria, eight countries reject expansion of Israel's military operation in Gaza

Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the unhindered delivery of large-scale humanitarian aid, and the unconditional release of all hostages. "This horrific conflict must end," Ms Meinl-Reisinger said in a joint-statement along with Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, the UK and the High Representative of the EU. At least 9 killed in Austrian school shooting

At least nine people were reported killed and a number of others injured in a shooting at a school in the southern Austrian city of Graz on Tuesday, the city’s mayor said. Graz Mayor Elke Kahr, quoted by Austrian news agency APA, said many injured had also been taken to hospital following the shooting, which she called a “terrible tragedy”. Attacks on Unifil troops 'totally unacceptable': Borrell

EU Foreign Affairs Minister Josep Borrell has said attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon "are a violation of international law and are totally unacceptable" after eight Austrian Unifil troops were injured in rocket strikes. Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine illegal: Austria

Austria reminded Israel once again that Jewish settlements in occupied Palestine are illegal. "We condemn the approval of additional settlement units in the occupied West Bank and call on Israel to withdraw this unnecessary provocation," the Austrian Foreign Ministry said on X. Ten killed in Austria and Switzerland avalanches

Ten people have been killed in several avalanches across the Austrian and Swiss Alps over the weekend. Tourists from New Zealand, China and Germany were among the dead at a number of different ski resorts. Shiffrin completes giant slalom double for 79th World Cup win

American Mikaela Shiffrin secured a giant slalom double in Semmering, Austria on Wednesday. This is her 79th World Cup victory, moving her within three wins of compatriot Lindsey Vonn's women's record of 82. Shiffrin clocked a combined time of two minutes and 3.51 seconds to beat Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami by 0.10 seconds. It was back-to-back victories for Shiffrin who also won on Tuesday.
